Bald Head, Arrowsic

Following our adventure to Squirrel Point where we ran out of time to check out Bald Head we made a point to make our way back. The milage to Bald Head (located in Bald Head Preserve) is 3.6 miles round trip. The trail to Bald head breaks off from the Squirrel Point trail about 0.3 miles into the hike.

The hike is an easy walk with a fairly wide trail. After crossing a marsh (0.3 miles from the trail sign) you will enter the 296 acre preserve that was conserved by the Nature Conservancy to protect a bald eagle nesting ground. Dog's are not allowed in the Bald Head Preserve, however the Squirrel Point trail does allow dogs.

There is a wonderful opportunity to take in the Kennebec River about another 0.6 miles from the entrance to the preserve. There are a nice couple of logs to sit and enjoy the views. After enjoying a snack and drink the trail begins to climb up to an open ledge that provides beautiful views out into Back River and looks out onto Crow Islands and Seal Island.

This trail provides a great opportunity for an easy hike, with nice wide trails, mostly flat terrain and could even be a great beginner trail for trail runners.
