Hamilton Audubon Sanctuary
Updated: May 3, 2020
First really beautiful day exploring the local walking trails. While the coronavirus has been keeping us all locked in it has caused me to really focus on those areas really close to home. Found another beauty. The Hamilton Audubon Sanctuary with almost 3 miles of trails its a nice afternoon walk when you want to get outside on a break from quarantine.
The parking lot is on the right hand side of the road as you drive down the peninsula and has enough room to squeeze almost 20 vehicles (ideally arranged). Cross the street and make your way through four different trails (all well marked). At the time I went it was low tide but I'm sure at high tide it gives the views a completely different look.
It has a mixture of dense forest (tall pines and furs), wide open fields, rocky coast view points with moss and ferns (guessing because they haven't arrived yet) growing throughout the trail system. Check out the picture gallery above.
The terrain was pretty easy (though this time of year like all early May hikes is wet and muddy). Trails were narrow at times but if you were patient you could easily squeak by people to maintain our appropriate 6 foot distance.
Next time I go I will plan to go during high tide and a bit later in the year to see the ferns really pop up. Hope you all are staying safe and able to discover all your own local gems.
